The Russell Quilt

The Russell Quilt

from Sharon Shaw: This quilt is what my dad, Wally, always referred to as 'The Russell Quilt". I do not know who gave it into his keeping. When it was made, or any history on it. It is NOT the one we made that Alma won in a raffle. It has sat at the bottom of my closet and I would bring it to the family reunion.

Dates on this are 1898, names like Lybecker, McFarland, McKinney, other that I can't remember without enlarging it. Places listed" "Grass Valley, Pullman, Elkhead, Albany, etc.

This week I took it to the Sherman County Historical Museum in Moro, Oregon. The head of a historical quilting group, 'just happened' to be there. I gave the quilt into their keeping. They were incredibly excited to get it. They will analyze the thread, the material, the type of stitching that was used, and date it. They will research the names on the quilt. I'll get a report.

It will be put in their quilt display with any information that they obtain, and anyone in the family that would like to view it can ask to do so. As 'you' are going through other family papers and history writings, would you look for any possible info? Pictures? I have a form to fill out and send any info I glean to them.
