Sylvia Teresa Lybecker was born to Ella Russell and Oscar Lybecker on December 12, 1895. She was their sixth child of nine children. She grew up in Spokane, Washington where she was an industrious woman.
She worked in the cook wagons during the wheat harvest season, and at 20 years old she got her first teaching job at a local school.
When cars were the rage, Sylvia learned to drive right away.

In 1920, Sylvia met and married Robert (Bill) Maynard Brim. Right away, they started their little family. They had four lovely children from 1921-1927.
Bill had done farming as a young man for quite a few years but by 1930 he had begun doing carpentry and working at the mill, and doing cabinetry work.
In 1937, tragedy hit. The whole family were driving in a pick-up truck in the evening on their way to his brother’s for Thanksgiving. They drove onto a railroad track and was hit by a Great Northern Freight Engine. Their two oldest children, Sylvia Mae, sixteen years old, and Robert (Bob), twelve years old, died within a few minutes.
The two younger children, Jack, 11 years old and Billie, 10 years old and their mother, Sylvia had only a few scrapes and their father had a broken arm. The pick-up truck was totaled. This was devastating for the whole family. But they got through it with the help of the Lord.
Sylvia’s family were a musical one just like her mother’s family was. She played the accordion and her son, Jack played the coronet. She also crocheted and knitted.
Sylvia and Bill Brim were both active in Child Evangelism for many years. They lived in Eugene, Oregon for twenty years until Bill died there at age seventy-nine years old. The next year, Sylvia moved to Lynden. Four years later, Sylvia died in 1978 at the age of eighty-two years old.
